2024 Summer Development Programming

You will find a wide variety of classes for your player to stay sharp and learn more during the off-season!


All Girls Skills

Girls’ skills is for any player planning to try-out for the Vipers Girls teams in the fall at any level. Classes will be broken up into similarly skilled groups to ensure proper training and skill development. 

Training will include the following:

  • Stickhandling
  • Shooting
  • Edge work and all-around skating
  • Small area games
  • Passing

Body Contact (Two 5-week Sessions)

The Body Contact & Puck Protection Class will work on age specific proper body contact, and help players play more physical (legally). The goal of this class is to give players the confidence and tools to play a physical brand of hockey. 

Training will include the following:

  • Corner battles
  • Open Ice scenarios
  • Board battles
  • Angling

CSDHL Skates (One 9-week Session)

The Vipers are committed to the development of some of the best birth year teams in the region. The purpose of these skates is to work on the skills and hockey IQ needed to play at the highest level. This class is only open to players that plan to try out for the highest-level birth year teams at Vipers the upcoming fall season. A head coach recommendation or Hockey Director-approval is required prior to registration. Each class is 60 minutes in duration, which will include 30 minutes of skills and 30 minutes of team system training.

Training will include the following:

  • System work
  • System specific skills
  • Skating, stickhandling, shooting
  • Game scenarios
  • Team concepts

Defensive Clinic (Two 5-week Sessions)

The Defensive Clinic (by popular demand) will focus specifically on Defenseman. Class sizes will be small to give players an opportunity to work on all of the physical skills and mental strengths needed for defenseman to be dynamic and successful. 

Training will include the following:

  • Defensive Skating
  • Positioning
  • Puck control and escapes
  • Shooting
  • Defensive specific scenarios
  • Defensive specific skills

Elite Mite Skills (One 9-week Session)

The Elite Mite Skills class meets two times per week for nine weeks. The classes are intended for players looking to play travel hockey at the mite level in the upcoming fall season. Each skills class will break into groups of similarly skilled players. Elite Mite Skills is a premium development program for younger players looking for an edge this upcoming fall season.

Training will include the following:

  • 2 hours of ice time per week
  • Power and Edge work
  • Stickhandling
  • Shooting
  • Speed training
  • Puck Protection

Elite Power Skating (Two 5-week Sessions)

The Elite Power Skating Class is for players at the AA or AAA level and requires either a coach recommendation or graduation from the Power Skating class.

Training will include the following:

  • Advanced Edge Work
  • Quickness and agility training
  • Power and speed
  • Balance within a wide variety of skating techniques
  • Crossovers and cross-under
  • Variety of training techniques to improve on-ice athleticism

Goalie Clinic - Travel (Two 5-week Sessions)

Travel Goalie Clinic (with Roy Perfetti) will meet on Monday’s for two - 5 week sessions throughout the summer. Class size will be limited to 8 goalies per session to ensure proper training and reps.

This class is for Travel level goalies only.

Each player will work on the following:

  • Goalie Specific Skating
  • Rebound Control
  • Quickness and agility
  • Angles
  • Stand up and butterfly technique

Vipers House Skills (One 9-week Session)

Vipers House skills is for any player planning to play on a Vipers House team in the upcoming fall season. Classes will be broken up into similarly skilled groups to ensure proper training and skill development. 

Training will include the following:

  • Stick-handling
  • Shooting
  • Edge work and all around skating
  • Over-speed
  • Passing

Midget Skills (One 9-week Session)

This class is for Midget and High School players looking to enhance their game, to make a CSDHL or NIHL team in Fall 2024 and for players looking to jump into college or junior hockey next season.

Training will include the following:

  • Power Skating
  • Stickhandling
  • Edgework and body control
  • Shooting to score
  • Transfer to game skill work
  • Angling/body protection
  • Transfer to game small area skills
  • 1v1, 2v1, 2v2, 3v2 flow and game-like situational play

Midget/College Players Scrimmage (One 9-week Session)

Midget/College player scrimmages will be available on three different days (Tuesday, and Thursday). Scrimmage numbers are limited to 30 players per day and registration is required in advance to ensure each scrimmage is not overly crowded. Scrimmages are open to current Midget and High School aged players as well as players currently playing at the collegiate level. Last season each group sold out quickly, so get your buddies to register early!

Power Skating (Two 5-week Sessions)

The Power Skating class is for hockey players looking to develop power, speed, endurance, edgework, and balance. Our instructors will instill the proper technique and fundamentals needed to advance players to the next level of skating. Each session has a maximum capacity of 20 players to ensure proper reps and instruction.

Each player will work on the following:

  • Balance
  • Stride
  • Backwards skating
  • Crossovers
  • Edge work
  • Power

Shooting Clinic (Two 5-week Sessions)

Shooting Clinic focuses on getting players a harder, more accurate shot. Our instructors will instill proper technique and reinforce good habits that will transfer directly into game play. 

Each player will work on the following:

  • Weighted puck for strength and power
  • 100 reps per class
  • Age-appropriate progression
  • Weight transfer
  • Vision and accuracy
  • Advanced scoring techniques

Stickhandling Clinic (Two 5-week Sessions)

The Stick Handling Clinic focuses specifically on hands, stick handling, and technique. This clinic is perfect for players looking to develop and advance their stick handling and add additional tools to their arsenal. 

Training will include the following:

  • Proper hand placement
  • Proper use of the Top and Bottom Hand
  • Creativity
  • Each player will learn a wide variety of stick handling moves.
  • Quick Hands
  • Deception techniques
